TERM
Krankentransport
A Krankentransport is transport in a patient-transport ambulance with qualified care, unlike a Krankenfahrt, where the patient is only driven.
It is prescribed when the patient needs qualified care or the special equipment of the ambulance during the ride; the care is provided by qualified non-medical staff under state law (§ 6 Krankentransport-Richtlinie).
The equipment is not meant for emergencies; those are rescue rides.
For outpatient treatment the Krankentransport needs the insurer's prior approval, for inpatient treatment it does not (§ 6 (3)).
